I’m a husband to my incredible wife and a father to my precious children first. I’m driven to be the best version of myself that I can be. With a passion for improving the lives of others, I’ve found great joy and satisfaction through sharing what I learn. My formative years were spent exploring the vast landscapes of northwestern Montana, a stark contrast to the bustling city life of my younger years in Los Angeles. After high school, I lived in the Baltimore, Maryland, area for two years as a missionary, serving and sharing my faith in Jesus Christ. These diverse experiences shaped my worldview, emphasizing the importance of service, personal growth, independence, and a commitment to making a positive impact.

My History

Background and Experiences

While I do love working in real estate, I  find that I don’t resonate with much of the industry status quo, often finding myself at odds with industry conventional norms. I seamlessly blend into gatherings of real estate investors, where my unconventional mindset resonates more than it does in the typical Realtor conferences. 

I believe that if after a few years in this business, you’re income is entirely derived from sales commissions, you’re missing a key aspect of lasting success and true financial growth as a real estate professional. To work in real estate and not be actively involved in real estate investments is a tragic missed opportunity to maximize your knowledge and resources. 

When I first drove my old Honda with no A/C down from Northwestern Montana to Las Vegas in early  2002, to begin an internship as an appraiser, I knew nothing about real estate. And I do mean nothing. I  both laugh and cringe when I look at that old yellow notepad with glossary words I was working on learning at the time. Ya know such brain busters as equity, mortgage, title, and lien. 

Despite knowing next to nothing about real estate at the time, my curiosity and eagerness to learn laid the foundation for what would become a rich and diverse career. 

Fast forward over twenty years and this curiosity has only grown. My journey through the real estate industry has led me to managing a successful appraisal office, to opening my own appraisal and consulting firm. This led to an increase in investment opportunities. The relationships I built within my investor network would prove to be career-saving when the 2008 market crash hit. It was after a couple of hard years of struggling that I got my real estate license in 2010, selling many fix & flip properties for investor friends as well as many of my own fix and flip investment projects. 

Several years later I would do something I’d never done before. I got a job. Entrepreneurialism runs deep into who I am but when contacted by a corporate recruiter and offered a salary position with a  national mortgage company, I found myself curious again. 

Spending the next couple of years building, staffing, and training I met more incredible people and we established an in-house appraisal department that promoted compliance and smooth transactions for  Realtors, loan officers, and borrowers alike. 

I spent the bulk of my time putting out appraisal-related fires for loan officers and Realtors from diverse markets across this country. It was through this process of broadening my view to a national,  industry-wide perspective that I came to see many gaps within this industry. Gaps that could easily be closed with the proper perspectives, coaching, and education and yet, for decades, haven’t been.

I began offering live trainings in my local markets and quickly expanded, serving realtors in other markets. While this was a great experience, I found that much of the time was spent answering the same few questions over and over. I was putting band-aids on serious misunderstandings and issues.  Without treating the problem the symptoms would continue to show up throughout the careers of the  Realtors I was teaching. For my personality, this was not okay. I needed to go deep, offering skills,  techniques, and methods that would achieve the results the Realtors were truly needing. Through training on communication and properly setting expectations, I’ve developed methods to stop valuation, pricing, and appraisal-related issues before they start. (valuedrivenagent.com) 

These aren’t hypothetical or academia-driven solutions. I live my own advice and through applying these methods and teachings have built a business of consistent revenue that provides the lifestyle I’ve always dreamed of for my family. 

Never content to sit on the sidelines, in addition to this extensive involvement in lending operations,  I’ve discussed and debated needed changes with industry leaders and government officials. I’ve conducted portfolio analyses with bank auditors and discussed risk levels of mortgage-backed securities. 

Having underwritten thousands of deals for my own investment company, I’ve honed my analytical prowess, opening doors to working alongside several of the largest wholesalers and fix and flip investors in the business. This skill set also culminated in my being brought in to serve on the advisory board of a forward-thinking fin-tech start-up, creating additional opportunities to collaborate with major players in the industry. In addition to my proven track record in data-driven analytics, I’ve also had great success in negotiating acquisitions as well as structuring multiple exit strategies on the dispositions side. 

While operating as an outside contractor, providing quality control reviews and advisory services for high-volume investment operations, I was privy to fix and flip properties and long-held rentals that were to be sold long before they hit the market, resulting in my connecting several buyers with exclusive off-market properties throughout 2021-2022 with zero competition from other buyers at a  time when inventory was so low that many other buyers were making several offers with their agents only to never find success in winning a bidding war. 

Bringing a wealth of experience, transcending transactional expertise alone, regardless of the volume,  my commitment extends beyond personal success. As I continue to mentor and empower individuals in the pursuit of their goals within the dynamic world of real estate, advocating collaboration and paying it forward, I am most fulfilled by empowering others to achieve significant victories. 

This hasn’t come without a long list of ‘shoulda-woulda-coudas’ along the way. I’ve invested many thousands of dollars into my own education and personal development. I’ve lit several thousand more on fire through mistakes I’ve made and opportunities I’ve missed. I want to save others from wasting their hard-earned money, and from losing deals, clients, and closings but most importantly, I want to empower others to avoid wasting hours upon hours of time spent struggling without gaining traction and making progress at an impactful level. Anyone can make more money but none of us will ever get our time back.
